Composting

Do the rot thing and compost your organic waste! Compost your food scraps, coffee grounds, and yard waste in a way that works for you. Composting is a great way to divert waste from the landfill, regenerate soil health, and grow healthy plants- and we're here to help!

Workshops & Presentations

Staff can conduct free workshops or presentations on composting for garden clubs, service organizations and other community groups. We also offer composting and recycling activities for youth audiences, visit our Solid Waste School Programs page for information.

Community Composting at CCE

The Community Compost program offers the opportunity for near-by Broome County residents to compost their food scraps. The community compost program is perfect for those who want to compost their organic waste but may not have the space, time, or desire to manage their own bin! Members will have access to the compost bin after attending a short orientation training of 10-15 minutes.

Interested in becoming a community composter or would like additional information? Please contact Abigail Pepples ajp382@cornell.edu

Any resident in Broome County is eligible to join the program. If we are approaching our capacity of compost input we may pause new member sign-ups. Frequent visitors of the Broome County Regional Farmers Market, Cutler Botanic Garden, and Taste NY store are greatly encouraged to join!

The Community Compost Program can help start and support other composting locations in collaboration with another group or organization. Contact Abigail if your group is interested in hosting a composting site to serve your community.

The Community Compost Site is located on our campus, to the right of the Broome County Regional Farmers Market at 840 Upper Front Street, Binghamton.
