Our visiting instructors for the day-- from the SusqueNango Kennel Club-- Joelle and her Labrador Retriever, Jimmi, are an active competitive team in AKC Scent Work. They have progressed from the Novice level all the way to the Detective class in just a few short years. Together, they have earned titles across every level of the sport, with the exception of Detective—where Jimmi is currently working toward completion, already holding 3 out of the required 10 legs.

Beyond competition, Joelle is passionate about teaching and growing the sport. With a background in behavior and learning, she focuses on building strong foundations, clear communication, and confidence in both dogs and handlers. Her approach emphasizes that scent work is for every dog—regardless of age, breed, or experience.

Their presentation will introduce the fundamentals of nose work, including:

What scent work is and how it taps into a dog’s natural instincts.
How to get started in a way that builds motivation and clarity.
An overview of the four main elements: Containers, Interiors, Exteriors, and Buried.
A live demonstration showcasing how dogs problem-solve and communicate odor.
Joelle and Jimmi aim to make the sport approachable, engaging, and inspiring—helping others discover the joy of watching their dogs do what they were born to do.

Please leave your dogs at home! This program is a demonstration, not a training session.
