Lunch With Tom - Garter Snake

  • Wednesday, July 8, 2026, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

The Eastern Garter Snake is the most widespread and commonly encountered snake in our area. Even though many refer to it as a "garden snake" or "gardener snake", its correct name is Common Garter Snake (or Eastern Garter Snake subspecies in our area). The name is derived from its overall pattern that resembles a garter belt. So, what else about this very common wildlife neighbor might be misunderstood? Many people do not like or might fear snakes; it is said that that we fear those things we do not understand, so why not join us to find out more. For those that like snakes, it should be informational. For those that do not, you may not become a huge snake fan, or actually fear them less, but at least you might have a better understanding for our most common snake. All are welcome.

Participants are invited to bring a lunch to enjoy with fellow community members, or purchase one from CCE's "Taste NY" store.

Registration is required. Admission is free.

This event is geared toward adults age 50+.
