Our 4-H Makers Market at the Fair is a new program this year. We have a lot of talented young artists who showcase their projects in the Youth Building, and we would like to give them an opportunity to market their wares just as the livestock kids do. 4-H'ers, ages 8+, will have the opportunity to “set up shop” during the Livestock Market Auction at the Broome County Fair. In preparation for that event, there will be a required meeting each month that will help our budding entrepreneurs build business skills.

Turn your idea into a real mini business! Youth will learn the basics of creating a simple business plan, identify their customer, and calculate true product costs (materials + time). We’ll cover profit goals, smart pricing strategies, and a beginner-friendly overview of sales tax, including how to research whether a product is taxable. Youth will leave with a clear plan for how to draft and prepare their Maker’s Market application, plus next steps to complete at home including research and time to think through and refine their ideas. This required class helps youth decide if they’re ready to commit and prepares them to apply with confidence.
