Animal Calls and Human Noise Disturbance (VIRTUAL)

  • Monday, March 24, 2025, 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

With spring approaching, we’re sure to start hearing all sorts of animals in our local environments. What may sound like a cacophony of singing, croaking, and chittering is really a complex web of highly specialized communication methods. How do animals hear what they need to hear in crowded, noisy environments? And how does human noise impact the finely tuned mechanisms that allow these animals to pinpoint important sounds and ignore others?

Join CCE nature educator Carolyn Klein for a look into the wide variety of calls heard throughout the animal kingdom, the physical mechanisms behind these calls, and the ways that human activity and noise have disrupted calling animals’ lifestyles.

This presentation will contain some intricate topics and terms, but all concepts will be explained to a level accessible to audience members with differing background knowledge.

This program will be held on Zoom, open to all ages, and free of charge. Registration is required and only registered participants will receive the Zoom link.
