4-H'ers will learn the identifying characteristics of common breeds, what that breed is traditionally used for, and any genetic disorders typically linked to them. We will also cover the scientific classification of the horse (and other equines) and its evolutionary phases.

4-H Horse Program: Horse Breeds

  • Monday, October 14, 2024, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Members will meet regularly to share their passion for horses while studying equine science. They will create and keep their own study book to keep and use in preparation for participation in Horse Bowl and Hippology. Participation in the competitions is not required, but they will be the motivational force behind the course material. Our meetings will start with a lesson, followed by an activity, and finish with playing a trivia game like Kahoot. We will occasionally have visiting expert speakers and go on field trips to learn firsthand about the diverse horse industry.
