4-H Horse Program: Horse Colors & Coat Modifications

  • Monday, October 7, 2024, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Members will meet regularly to share their passion for horses while studying equine science. They will create and keep their own study book to keep and use in preparation for participation in Horse Bowl and Hippology. Participation in the competitions is not required, but they will be the motivational force behind the course material.  Our meetings will start with a lesson, followed by an activity, and finish with playing a trivia game like Kahoot. We will occasionally have visiting expert speakers and go on field trips to learn firsthand about the diverse horse industry.

Horse Colors & Coat Modifications

Horse colors can be more complicated than one might think, yet they are the first means to identification. Members will kick off this series of classes by learning basic coat colors and color modifications (roaning, dun, pinto, dilutions, and more.) They will also cover the different Appaloosa coat patterns, face and body markings, and other methods of horse identification.
