Rabbits and guinea pigs are a great option when deciding upon your first 4-H animal science project. They’re relatively small, inexpensive to keep, can live outside or inside, and provide valuable lessons in animal husbandry. Come learn the basics of showing rabbits and cavies in the American Rabbit Breeders Association (A.R.B.A.) and discover how to start a successful breeding program of your own.
Members will learn which of the many ARBA-recognized breeds of rabbits would be a good choice for them. They will then be introduced to the materials needed to get started in housing, caring for, breeding, and showing.
This program will be followed up by a field trip to the New York Grand Finals Rabbit & Cavy Show on Sunday, October 6th at the New York State Fairgrounds, where members will be introduced first-hand to the rabbit show world and meet with rabbit and cavy judges and breeders. (Members may choose to attend either one, or both, of these programs.)
