Join CCE Broome County for a fall foraging series this September! Participants will learn how to identify common choice mushrooms and plants in our area ranging from edibles to those with traditional holistic medicinal uses. Participants will also learn about preferred habitats of these species and where/when to locate them.
We would like to remind participants that this series is strictly educational. The series will cover how to sustainably forage and what to look for, but no foraging will take place.
----------------
Dates and times for the fall foraging series are below:
Binghamton University Nature Preserve (Vestal, NY) - Thursday, September 14th
Hawkins Pond (Windsor, NY) - Thursday, September 21st
Jones Park (Vestal, NY) - Thursday, September 28th
There will be two sessions offered at each location: 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.
----------------
We will be focusing mainly on the invasive Autumn Olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) at BU's Nature Preserve on September 14th, in addition to other forageables such as Staghorn Sumac and Witch Hazel. Mushrooms will be the focus at Hawkins Pond and Jones Park with both locations having a diverse array of many mushroom species.
Each session is limited to 20 participants maximum and registration is required. If the maximum number of participants is reached you will be added to a waitlist. If you are registered and find out you cannot attend, please notify Cam ASAP so spots can be filled from the waitlist.
We are happy to offer this program free of charge to community members of all ages. Any youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
