Join the CCE of Broome County for a two-part series on Spring Ephemeral Plants!
Ephemeral plants are short-lived, only appearing for a few weeks each year while sunlight is bathing the forest floor before trees begin to leaf out in late-spring. Since they are among the first plants to bloom each year, they also play a vital role in maintaining the health of our local ecosystems. Common ephemeral plants of Broome County include trillium, trout lillies, blue cohash, gay-wing and more!
Part 1 - Tuesday, May 16th 6:30-7:30pm @ Nathaniel Cole Park
One-hour long walk to see some of our native ephemerals in bloom. Nathaniel Cole Park is known for its patches of trillium, trout lillies, blue cohash and violets, among others.
Part 2 - Tuesday, May 23rd 6:30-7:30pm @ Chenango Valley State Park
One-hour long walk to see some of our native ephemerals in bloom. Nathaniel Cole Park is known for its patches of pink lady slipper orchids, gay-wing, and violets, among others.
