How to Start a Food Business

Are you a chef or caterer? Looking to start your own food business? Join us in an Open House event at the Cornell Cooperative Extension - Broome Commercial Kitchen. Talk to product development specialists to discuss licensing, business plans, marketing, sales, and other “how-to’s” in creating your food-based business. The event will include a tour of our shared-use kitchen. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to staff and current users who have gone through the process, so you can learn what steps to take to bring your idea to reality. Light refreshments will be served.
What participants will learn:
● What foods can be made at home and what must be produced in a commercial kitchen
● Expectations of businesses operating with Department of Health Permit vs. Ag and
Markets Food Processing License
● The essential pieces to rent a commercial kitchen or starting one at home
● First steps to creating your food-based business, business plans, sales, and more
