Bokashi Composting

  • Thursday, January 19, 2023, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Is composting part of your New Year’s resolutions? You can start composting ALL your food waste (including meats, dairy products, and oily dressings) even in the middle of winter with Bokashi!

Bokashi is the process of “pickling” your food waste in an airtight bucket using bran that is inoculated with helpful microbes. Food waste can be kept in the bucket for several weeks or longer until you are ready to add it to your outdoor compost pile.

Benefits of bokashi include increased microbial population and diversity and increased nutrient availability to plants in soil.

Participants in this class will not only learn about the basics of bokashi bucket maintenance but will also make their own bran to take home for free.
