Lunch with Tom (Spring/Summer 2024)

Seniors (50+) are invited to bring a lunch or buy one at the TASTE NY store to enjoy prior to a presentation by CCE's very own Tom Tasber. Light refreshments, instant coffee and tea will also be provided.

Location: Large Conference room in TASTE NY building (next to CCE Broome's main offices located at 840 Upper Front St., Binghamton, NY)

Time: 12:00pm-1:30pm

May 8th - Virginia Opossum
The opossum is one of our most common and recognizable local wild animals. It is equally at home in the forest, on the farm, or in the family's backyard. It may come as a surprise that it is also one of the most unique mammal species in all of North America.

June 12th - Common Snapping Turtle

As Broome County's largest turtle species, it is hard to miss as it crosses the road in search of a suitable nesting location. But beware, if you try to help it cross the road, it might snap out with its large head, jaws and extremely long neck. This aquatic neighbor is also one of the longest-lived creatures in our area.

July 10th - Common Raven
Throughout history, ravens have been associated with death and dark forebodings. This view could belie the widely held view that it is also one of the "smartest" birds in the world. Dark and intelligent are but two of the many traits that this fascinating bird possesses.

August 14th - Timber Rattlesnake
With fangs on one end and a rattle on the other, this is one of the most iconic of all the snakes. It is also one of the most feared and hated by many people. In New York it is listed as "Threatened" and is one of Broome County's rarest residents.

Reservations are required. Admission is free. Seniors (50+) only.
